lyrics

Verse One:

Lately I been thinking, bout the roads I’ve ventured down,
the route I’ve crossed with all the shit between that led me now,
from where it started, all that I could think was get me out,
the world is mine, I can’t miss it, so the quest was bound,
my mind shifts to a younger version of myself,
hear my parents argue, over money wishing I could help,
Pretend to sleep, as they’d bang the cupboard; slam the shelves,
thinking one day, I would get us out this fucking hell,
But they worked through it, and that’s a mystery,
a few years later, dad received his injury,
And from there began his manic depression,
But I feel the outcome, was what branched a new connection,
from the laughter, and the tears,
the suicide thoughts,
dancing round the house with mum,
Hiding all my school reports,
that ocean breeze, that swept across the porch,
The peace and harmony, combined with moments that were war,
Dad was in and out of hospital, i’d hold down the fort,
holding all emotions in, secured all the doors,
all the while, learning lessons, I was yet to know it taught,
looking down the hall thinking man if these walls could talk, damn.

Hook:

Past that old wooden door, it was absolute,
I was too young too realise the magnitude,
The good times and ever more that we carry through,
Take me down that old weeroona avenue,
Two streets from the beach, hear the waves crash,
Knowing now that I’ll never be the same Matt,
The good times and ever more that we carry through,
Take me down that old weeroona avenue.

Bridge:

And as I move on now with a different mountain to climb,
I look back in peace while it fades away as I leave that part behind,
Coz I know now, that house was only built to ever help us grow,
So let the chapter close and a new one open as I start make my own,

Verse Two:

I use to drive past for memories, to try and find it,
seen they boarded up across the fence to go and hide it,
so it felt like part of me was blinded,
those boards were confinement,
and my childhood is trapped behind it,
So close yet so far from my innocence,
choices seemed infinite,
Opportunities limitless,
Never thought a stack of bricks could be so significant,
guess that’s why I never stayed in one place, isn’t it?
Ive travelled near and far,
just trying to hold my own,
set camp in each corner just fill the zone,
But came to find its education, now I’m grown,
wherever the heart lay, is the place you make your own,
Over the horizon, through the darkness that I delved,
Out searching for a place, I never knew I'd made myself,
happiness and fear inside us are completely parallel,
But which lane you choose venture down, is yours to compel,
For whatever happens next, between my lady our son,
Is a journey together, feels like its only just begun,
I wish the younger me could see me as the man I’ve become,
So I could look him eyes, and say we finally won,
Past that corrugated fence, the gum tree out the front,
Was construction filled with love,
That I needed to discuss,
Once upon there’d live a boy who’d never given up.
the last time that door closed, what I had to overcome.
